Pelu "The Nigerian Diamond" Adetola Interview
Coach G • March 24, 2020
Happy to be able to present one of our Professional MMA and K1 fighters Pelu Adetola who is Returning from Serbian Battle Championship. Going to absolute war with UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado losing a close decision that alot if not most people watching from their homes thought he won. We put together 10 questions about the life of a fighter.

Why do you fight?
I love the challenge of facing an opponent who wants the glory of winning as much as I do and the thrill of throwing down and getting your hand raised at the end of a bout! Nothing can compare.
How and when did you start?
I started combat sports 10 years ago in Thailand with Muay Thai. I was over weight and the doctor advised me to take up swimming! To which I laughed and took no notice of him.
Who is your inspiration and why?
My close friends and family. Seeing people going through stresses and troubles in their daily life and winning. When you compare that to 15mins in a cage you realise what’s harder!
Do you fight full time or do you have to work? How hard is one or the other?
I have another job which is very accommodating to training etc. The only difficulty arises when I can’t train as often as I want to but there’s always a way around it.
Your advice to young fighters and kids wanting to do this for a living?
Train hard, look after your body, enjoy yourself when you’re in the cage, be prepared to sacrifice your time and never underestimate your opponent.
How did you come across GK1STRIKING and what's your experience and benefit working with Coach G
?
Greg used to be a teammate of mine at NFM in Windsor, we remained close friends when I changed teams to Team Titan in north London. In the middle of 2018 Greg started to take me on pads every now and then and by the start of 2019 he was my full time striking coach. Greg always wants to inspire the most from his students and will drill the tiniest imperfections in your game till it becomes second nature.
Favourite martial arts movie star growing up?
Blood sport for film and Jean Claude Van Damme. The action scenes in this movie were top quality and definitely an inspiration.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Hopefully still fighting at a very good level! Lol
Favourite Female Fighter?
Charlotte McIntyre, Olga Rubin.
Up and coming fighter to look out for?
Too many: Adam Amarazinghe, Luke Trainer, Simeon Powell, James Hendin, Lone’er Kavanagh, Nik Bagley, Aaron Grey, Aaron Laleye, Mo Zubair... The list could go on! I’m around so many talented young athletes all the time, just can’t remember all their names🤦🏾♂🤦🏾♂
