Coach G • May 16, 2020

Young skillful fighter Lucas Cox is one of our talented upcoming Ninjas that has been involved with combat sports since his early teens, witnessing Gk1STRIKING evolvement from day 1. Read his answers below.

Why do you fight?

I have always enjoyed competing in all sports, but after my first MMA bout I knew It was time to forget about football and concentrate on martial arts. The feeling of going toe to toe with someone else of equal skill and seeing who will come out on top is what drives me the most.

How and when did you start?

I started when I was 14 years old after getting in trouble at school and was suggested to me to get boxing. After my first class I was hooked and I haven’t looked back since!

Who is your inspiration and why?

The people who inspire the most within the sport are my coaches, team mates and opponents. The bond and experiences shared between team mates and coaches is paramount. We’ve seen each other at highs and lows, traveled half way across the country to support one another, the hours of training put in every week to get someone ready for a fight. Without the sacrifices of others none of us would be where we are today. I find my opponents inspirational as without them there would be no fight, without them there is nothing to drive me to grind and put the extra work in. My opponents inspire me to WORK

Do you fight full time or do you have to work? How hard is one or the other?

I compete in martial arts as a side hustle, I am lucky enough to work as a personal trainer which I find marrys up well with my hobby. Any research I do for work or training I undertake to compete both compliment each as they are so closely linked.

Your advice to young fighters and kids wanting to do this for a living?

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket always have have a plan B. Be certain you want to enter the sport, weigh up all the pros and cons. All contact sport is dangerous, especially fighting. You need to be willing to give it your all, every aspect of the sport. From dieting to the actual fight. It all needs to be taken seriously.

How did you come across GK!STRIKING and what's your experience and benefit working with Coach G?

I came across GK1 striking as the main man has been one of my training partners since the my very first training session! Gregor is great guy and is extremely passionate about his craft. His energy is contagious and will never BS you. We use simple methods and make them advance and make them work! That’s what I appreciate the most working with Gregor

Favorite martial arts movie star growing up?

I would Rocky was my favorite fictional movie star growing up

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I don’t know where I’ll be in 5 years time... all I know is that I will still be involved with the sport even if it was to change to a coaching role. This sport has given me too much and meant too much to me to ever abandon it. I feel very strongly about giving back and that’s something I’d love to do. No matter how many years time that will be.

Favorite female fighter?

My favorite female fighter would have to be Rose Namajunas. I love her style and outlook in the sport.

Up and coming fighter to look out for?
